Who we are
Established in April 2018
Church Lane was established in April 2018 by Charlie Banister to provide outsource Field Exam services into the Asset-Based Lending (‘ABL’) industry. These Field Exams are prepared against a company’s Accounts Receivable or Inventory collateral, and are prepared either as part of the front-end due diligence process, or for ongoing monitoring purposes.
What we do
Over 200 field exams in over 15 countries
Since being established, the company has completed over 200 field exams, in over 15 countries, across a range of business sectors, and for lenders domiciled in the UK, Ireland, and the US. The field exam reports prepared by Church Lane contain the reporting, trend analysis, collateral testing, and the resultant availability analysis (complete with recommended ineligibles, reserves, advance rates, monitoring recommendations) used to underwrite new ABL facilities, or to support the ongoing monitoring of existing ABL facilities. The company is Panel-Approved with most of the large ABL-providers operating in the UK, with the Field Exam report outputs being provided on ABL-lender templates, or in-house Church Lane templates.

Charlie Banister
Charlie started his career in the Asset-Based Lending (‘ABL’) industry in 1995 in the Finance Team at Barclays Commercial Services, before moving into the Field Exam team there in 1997. Further Field Exam roles followed at Royal Bank Invoice Finance and then Burdale Financial Ltd (now Wells Fargo Capital Finance), before he moved across into a Loan Officer role at Burdale for another 3-years.
In 2005, Charlie moved across to providing Consulting Services into the ABL sector, spending 2-years at P&A Lenders Services. This was followed by 5-years as a Partner at Edwards Symmons in the Collateral Review & Valuations Team, managing key relationships with ABLs, advisors, and private equity clients, as well as undertaking inventory valuations. In 2012, he joined as a Director at Gordon Brothers within the Valuation & Corporate Recovery Team in the Gordon Brothers European Head Office in London, again managing key client relationships and undertaking and overseeing inventory valuations.
In April 2018, Charlie established Church Lane Associates Ltd, providing outsource Field Exam services to the asset-based lending sector, for use in a new business due diligence capacity, and in an on-going monitoring capacity.
Married, he lives in London, and has two young daughters. A keen motorcyclist, he has completed trips around the New England States, Texas, Florida, France, Belgium, Wales, and the full NC500 route around Scotland. Whisky is another interest, both personally and professionally, and is also an ABL sector-specialism, with over 25 Scottish and Irish distilleries visited during his time at Edward Symmons, Gordon Brothers, and Church Lane.
